On the bustling streets of Phillipsburg (make that booming streets when the cruise ships dock), restaurants serve a rijstafel worthy of Amsterdam. Summoning a cognac at a waterfront café in Marigot, you might be on the Riviera. Except, perhaps, on market days when the plantains, papaya, and giant vanilla beans remind you that this is a beautiful island in the tropics.

Bordered on all sides by glistening beaches, one on your doorstep at Royal Palm, you can snorkel, sail, and swim up to the pool bar for a tasty treat to sip on as you take in the sun and toast the spirit of the European union, Caribbean-style.

Soak up the warm sun, sea and sand while at Royal Palm Beach Club. You'll find plenty of activities to fill your hours-- both in the daytime and well into the night on this tropical half-Dutch, half- French island. At the beach you can swim, water ski, jet ski, snorkel, or sail. Take a dip in the resort's oceanfront pool. Excellent bargains in Duty Free shopping can be found in nearby Marigot on the French side or Philipsburg on the Dutch side. The island also boasts a large number of gourmet restaurants. Day trips to some of the neighboring islands are a must for sightseers.
