In a bygone era of lakeside resort hotels, Rangeley Lake House spread its arms and gathered generations of vacationing families. In the early mornings, Maine Guides rowed fly fishers in hand-crafted Rangeley boats. Steel bit into jaw, landlocked salmon catapulted out of the water, dime-bright flanks flashed in the sunlight.
At mid-day families lounged on the verandas and read, played chess and checkers, tried croquet and badmington, or golfed on the adjacent course. In the evenings, men and women strolled arm in arm along the boardwalk, the moon's reflection sliding across the mirrored lake.
